Urgent: AI Studio suddenly stopped working — “Failed to list models: permission denied”

Hi everyone,

I urgently need help with a sudden Google AI Studio issue.

It was working normally with the same Google account until today, but it suddenly stopped working and now shows:

Failed to list models: permission denied. Please try again.

It also says that it cannot verify the subscription status of my Google AI account.

What makes this particularly confusing is:

  • The Google Cloud Console still opens normally.
  • My Google account itself can log in normally.
  • AI Studio was working normally with the same setup before this happened.
  • The Google Cloud Console usage page works OK and shows that my recent usage had already decreased over the past few days, and now AI Studio has completely stopped working.

I am quite concerned because I need AI Studio urgently for ongoing work.

Has anyone experienced the same issue recently? Is this likely to be an AI Studio service-side issue, region/IP detection problem, or an account entitlement problem?

Any information about a known outage, workaround, or confirmed fix would be greatly appreciated.

not yet, today there is no warning on ai studio, but redirect to “Available regions for Google AI Studio and Gemini API” page, still can not use it at all

We have recently rolled out a mandatory age verification initiative across signed-in customers globally, Accounts that have not completed explicit date-of-birth/identity verification should do so by navigating to Google Account Age Verification or verifying date of birth in Google Account Personal Info."

Also, Make sure you are accessing AI Studio from one of the supported regions, disconnect any VPN, proxy, or iCloud Private Relay and access AI Studio directly.

After completing these steps, please try again in a few hours, If you still face issues, please let us know.
