Failed to list models: permission denied - AI Studio suddenly stopped working after months of normal use

Hello Google AI team and community,

I have been using Google AI Studio with my personal Google account for about 6 months. I have also used the Gemini API free tier with this account (for example, through Chatbox).

Several days ago, AI Studio suddenly stopped working.

The error message is:

“Failed to list models: permission denied. Please try again.”

After showing this error, AI Studio redirects me to:

The same account also has problems accessing Gemini web (gemini.google.com).

I’m using a personal Google account (not a Google Workspace account), and my account is 18+. This account has been working normally with AI Studio and the Gemini API for around 6 months before this issue started.

I have already tried several troubleshooting steps, including using different browsers, different devices (PC and mobile), clearing cookies and signing in again, and switching between different network exits/proxy providers. However, the issue still persists.

Other Google services (Gmail, Drive, etc.) work normally.

Since this account was working normally for months and the problem appeared suddenly, could this be an account eligibility/entitlement issue or a backend region verification problem?

We have recently rolled out a mandatory age verification initiative across signed-in customers globally, Accounts that have not completed explicit date-of-birth/identity verification should do so by navigating to Google Account Age Verification or verifying date of birth in Google Account Personal Info."

Also, disconnect any VPN, proxy, or iCloud Private Relay and access AI Studio directly. After completing these steps, please try again in a few hours, If you still face issues, please let us know.
