Persistent Video Upload Failure - HTTP 500 Internal Server Error

Dear Google AI Studio Team,

I am writing to report a persistent issue I’m experiencing when trying to upload videos to Google AI Studio. Every attempt fails, consistently resulting in an HTTP 500 Internal Server Error. The specific error message is similar to: “Http response at 400 or 500 level, error: , http status code: 500”.

To rule out client-side or file-specific problems, I have conducted extensive troubleshooting, including but not limited to:

  1. Testing Multiple Different Video Files:
  • Tested with at least 3 different videos.
  • File sizes were all under 20MB, with durations between 5-9 minutes.
  • All videos play correctly locally.
  • Files are in standard MP4 containers with H.264 (AVC) video and AAC audio codecs.
  1. Testing Multiple Browser Environments:
  • Attempted uploads using Google Chrome (standard mode).
  • Attempted uploads using Chrome’s Incognito mode.
  • Attempted uploads using a fingerprint-masking browser.
  1. Clearing Browser Data:
  • Cleared browser cache and cookies.
  1. Testing Different Network Environments:
  • Crucially, I switched my computer’s network connection to a mobile hotspot, completely bypassing my usual home/office network. The HTTP 500 error persisted even on this different network.

Despite taking all these steps, the HTTP 500 error during video upload remains unresolved. May it possible the issue stems from an internal issue on the AI Studio server backend when processing video upload requests?

This problem currently prevents me from utilizing any AI Studio features that require video input.

I kindly request that your team investigate this issue from the server side. Thank you for your time and assistance.

Sincerely,

Gang

Getting the same error since yesterday. I even tried a video that was previously uploaded successfully, but it didn’t work

I am having the same issue, unfortunately. I can’t upload any video, not from my Google Drive or by manual upload from my computer. I am glad I am not the only one having this issue, because I thought it was just an issue with my computer.

I tried using a 30-second video clip that was previously uploaded and has previously reliably worked as well. The behavior I observed was that the spinner (shown while the video is pre-processed into the typically 1 fps image sequence) didn’t stop spinning after a full minute, and the ‘Run’ button did not become enabled:

Hope that helps the team with trouble shooting. I am speculating that the video issue might be related to the issue reported here: Urgent: Significant Regression in File Status Transition to ACTIVE

I’ve done a bit more testing and noticed something interesting:

When I upload a video, after about 5 minutes of the “Extracting” message with the loading spinner, I get the error message, and it switches from “Extracting” to “Failed”. Interestingly, when that happens, the “Run” button becomes available and I can send the message:

When I send the message, there’s a very slim chance that the video actually gets uploaded and analyzed by the AI.

However, this chance is very slim. Out of about 20 attempts of this, only 3 attempts resulted in the video being uploaded and analyzed successfully. Two of the successful attempts were for large video files (20 minutes, 340K tokens), so I don’t think file size plays a role. In the failed attempts, the message gets sent, but the “Extracting” message starts again in the chat, before eventually failing after a while and giving the same error message.

So video uploads still work, but you have to spend quite some time deleting and reuploading the video before it goes through

I have the same issue , local video files and from drive dont work. Youtube works , images and other files work.

I have the same problem. How can we know if they have acknowledged this issue and how will we be informed once it’s resolved? Other platforms have dedicated bug tracking pages where you can see the status.

same problem, and when it fails, it gives this error:
“Http response at 400 or 500 level, error: , http status code: 0”

I also have the same issue. It started yesterday.
