Bug with Pro plan: Rate limited on the very first request

I am experiencing a severe rate limit bug in Google AI Studio. My account is linked to a “PRO” plan (as indicated by the badge in the bottom left corner of the UI), which I expected would provide higher rate limits than the free tier.

However, instead of increased limits, my quota appears to be bugged at zero. I am receiving a “You’ve reached your rate limit. Please try again later.” error on my very first prompt of the day.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Log into Google AI Studio with an account that has an active “PRO” plan linked.
  2. Select either Gemini 3.1 Pro Preview or a Flash model from the Run Settings.
  3. Type a simple prompt (e.g., “hi”) and submit.
  4. The system immediately returns a rate limit error, despite no prior requests being sent that day.

Expected Behavior:
The Pro plan should allow for a significantly higher rate limit than the free tier (which usually allows around 20 requests per day for Pro models). The first request of the day should process successfully without throwing a quota error.

Actual Behavior:
The prompt fails immediately with a rate limit error, rendering the Pro integration in AI Studio completely unusable.

Same issue here, just found out my plan is now integrated with AI studio, wrote my first prompt, didnt even use my quota in any other place, instant “You’ve reached your rate limit. Please try again later.”

I’m getting the same issue. I just updated to Credits and it said my Quota is already exceeded. I was using pay as you go before this, then did the credits and now I’ve reached by quota without a single request.

I got the same issue, is this forum ignored by Google?

Yeah I’ve noticed some accounts especially those under the family plan are not getting any benefits from the increased rate limits. It doesn’t work sometimes for some reason. I’m supposed to be getting ~50 requests and instead barely get 15. I don’t know what’s going on either but the rate limit is both opaque and inconsistent.

Yeah significant bug right now. Pro plan right now has the exact same rates as free tier. I’ve tracked since the release and its been a consistent 13 requests with 3.1 pro and a mix up for flash. Logan ‘said’ they are working on the bug since first release. That being said they had already pulled the entire thing once because it didn’t work before the weekend. The fact its not working is quite impressive after that.

Same here. I mean, apart from nano banana, still not sure what the benefits are. They should atleast give a clear timeline for the fix(if there’s one, or it might be no benefits at all).

Small addition, the daily quote reset just passed and the new maximum has become 6 for 3.1 pro for myself at least.

Lets hope they get this solved quickly before it becomes an actual failure of service issue. Though one might consider it has already become this for a paid product with clear language to provide a reasonable service. Given they have had a reasonable amount of time to solve the known and already existing issue from last week if it continues beyond the next billing period it will be a genuine issue.

What’s even happening there seems to be issues with the Quota for the paid tier.

I’m not using a project some accounts with pro just experience this on the playground.

Be aware, I did make contact with @Mahesh_Sutar as suggested and day after the bug rates where from the look of things solved.
Last night I hit the the bugged quota issue, however by the morning after (~10am) the day after (Before the daily reset later tonight my time) I have been able to continue without any rate limits at this point. (20 3.1 pro responses) for my session.

Depending I will update later after the daily quota reset to find if this is solved and what the quota maximum I reach is. (3-6 hours from now)

Don’t know if this runs on the same daily reset or not as API. But I put out about 30 or so responses over the day and got rated. But after the daily quota reset, nothing happened still rated. I’m genuinely not sure what’s going on now.

Final edit, I must unfortunately state that the actual solution seems to have not lasted past the daily reset for the platform. While I had used up to around 50 requests over the day before the reset. Once the reset came I only managed to get the same 10-13 requests before being rate limited. As of 3:29 25/04/2026 (Australia) those rate limits are still in place>

Basically I got one day’s worth of actual correct quota and got rate limited to 10-13 the next cycle again. Brilliant.

Yeah, I can’t do any more than 2-3 prompts a day.
