I’ve tried different IP in germany, same problem with every IP. If I enable USA VPN I can continue using immediately on the same account, device, browser.
Problem occurs randomly, e.g. I can use ai studio for a while and suddenly “restricted”. Problem disappears after a couple minutes (5-60 min) on the same account and I can continue use AI studio for a while.
This behavior usually happens when AI Studio’s regional compliance check momentarily detects that your request is coming from an unsupported or ambiguous location. The Gemini API and AI Studio enforce regional restrictions based on the IP range seen by Google’s frontend, not just your account country. If your ISP in Germany uses dynamic routing or proxies traffic through another country, the session can briefly appear outside a supported region and trigger the redirect to “available regions.” Using a U.S. VPN masks that by presenting a stable, supported IP range, which explains why it works consistently.
To stabilize access, confirm your browser or network isn’t using a privacy relay, VPN, or proxy that shifts IP routes. If you’re on mobile or behind corporate NAT, try a fixed broadband connection with a consistent German IP. Clearing cached session data and reloading AI Studio after a region error helps re‑establish location verification. If the issue persists even on a stable domestic connection, capture the request timestamp and region message and open a ticket through Google Cloud Support so the team can check the backend geolocation logs for your account.
