In AI studio i have a chat i consider very important, i was at around the 330k tokens mark, i was using 2.5 pro, and suddenly it stopped counting tokens hence it doesnt allow me to chat. this is very annoying i have tried to branch it, copy it, share it (doesn’t even let me) it just won’t let me continue chatting there which i find very annoying, are there any solutions for this?
(I don’t know why it says 223k tokens, i assume thats where the model got in token counting, im very sure i passed the 300k token mark)
Same, the tokens keep on getting stuck on counting on larger chats and I don’t know how to fix it. Its a bug in the copied chats feature I think. I need it to be fixed because I have a project I’m working on and can’t access the answers.
So do I,same bug in my chats(all copied chats)
I am having the same exact problems with my chats over 300k. Please i have very important work, and without those chats I cant progress. Literally today, i’ve been doing nothing and just waiting for this problem to get fixed, i dont know what to do if those chats never worked, i will be screwed.
I’ve found a temporary workaround for this issue: we’ll use keyboard shortcuts to send requests
Alt+Enter
The message is sent to the chat but doesn’t trigger a response, so it needs to be run manually.
—and then click on the logo to re-run [run the prompt] the stars.
Thanks. this works, even if it may be temporal
Thanks! The only problem is that the system doesn’t save the new interactions. The only way not to lose them is to make a copy of the conversation.
I can confirm that this works, but definitely looking forward to hear a more permanent fix as those chats are very important. ![]()
Hello !
I’m experiencing the same issue. For me, it happens only where token count is > 400k. I have done a test with a prompt which I branched and what happened is that at around 375k token, the token count finished loading but on a simple subsequent refresh it wasn’t working anymore. My logical conclusion is that either the bug is intermittent or perhaps it’s like a timeout where the “count” gives up.
It happens in Firefox 144.0.2, Firefox Dev Edition 145.0b8, Chrome 141.0.7390.123, latest Chrome (as of 31 Oct 25) on Android, so everywhere.
The screenshot I add shows that the input/output tokens have been counted, yet this doesn’t appear in the small icon on the top. This bug appeared simultaneously with the scrolling but of the 27th or 28th of October where the discussion was jumping all over the place.
Yes! This needs to get fixed asap
This sounds too simple, but I just scrolled way back in the chat and that seemed to reload the token count and it allowed me to keep chatting
This works but if you were at say 400k tokens and the token count got stuck at 200k the model will only know about the 200k tokens it counted and won’t remember the other 200k, my explanation was not as clear as I’d like it to be but I hope the gist of it is understood
This method was very effective. It’s a temporary fix, but the steps are simple.
Just scroll the chat all the way to the beginning, then scroll the page all the way to the bottom.
Thank you.
I’m experiencing the exact same issue—AI seems unable to process chat histories exceeding ~200K tokens. The re-run option works as a temporary workaround, but I really hope this bug gets resolved soon. Otherwise, we risk losing access to critical project threads.
post note: Scrolling all the way up to the beginning has also worked now. i have tried this with a project token over 400K
The same thing Google, mind you
how did you scroll a 400k chat. I tried pressing page up until the beginning but nothing happens.
YEP , the scrolling works I can confirm.
But I wont close this thread because they HAVE TO FIX THIS ISSUE ASAP.
It works, thank you so much.
It’s very strange:
- new chat works
- if I create a branch of my thread, it doesn’t work too
This works for the moment, thank you. For those on a mac its option + return
