"Token count failed" error when uploading images

Hello,

Since October 30, 2026, I’ve been experiencing an issue with Google AI Studio while using Nano Banana.

Every time I try to upload an image, I get the error message “Token count failed”, and I’m unable to proceed with image generation.

I’ve already tried several troubleshooting steps:

  • Clearing my browser cache and cookies.

  • Using a different browser (Microsoft Edge).

  • Using Google AI Studio with and without an API key.

  • Clearing storage space in Google Drive.

Unfortunately, none of these solutions have worked. The same error keeps appearing whenever I try to upload images.

Everything was working fine before this issue started.

I agree, the same problem. I even tried to create a new account and made a deposit with $5 and still the same issue

This could be related to an issue we just pushed a fix for. Probably worth trying again now.
