Hello,
I’m experiencing a persistent issue in Google AI Studio where every video upload fails with:
“Token count failed”
Images work correctly, but videos cannot be processed at all.
This is not limited to one specific file.
What I have already tested:
- Videos downloaded from Meta Ads Library
- Videos recorded directly with my iPhone
- Re-encoded H.264 MP4 videos
- Short videos
- Longer videos
- Small and larger file sizes
- Google Workspace account
- Personal Gmail accounts
- Brand-new Google accounts / AI Studio sessions
- Chrome
- Incognito mode
- Different chats
The result is always the same:
“Token count failed”
I am currently seeing this with Gemini 3.1 Pro Preview.
Important context:
A few months ago, video uploads worked normally for me from the same location and computer.
Other users I know are currently able to use the same workflow successfully: they upload advertising videos to Google AI Studio and analyze them normally.
Because the issue also happens with videos recorded directly on my iPhone and with re-encoded files, it does not appear to be related to the source file or codec.
Images continue to work normally.
I have already submitted this through Gemini API / Product Feedback.
Could someone from the AI Studio team confirm whether there is a known issue affecting video tokenization or video attachment processing?
I can provide screenshots, sample videos, and a screen recording if needed.
Thank you.
