I have a problem where I have attached a billing account to my project but I never get the option appearing to upgrade my account to tier 1. I am hitting rate limits which is slowing down my ability to test my app . Ive tried contacting billing support but im getting nowhere. Is anyone else having problems with this feature?

I appreciate this is frustrating (after all if they claim to offer this feature they should act upon it!) - but if you’re genuinely stuck due to tier 1 rate limits I’d strongly suggest using Google Vertex AI instead. Same models, similar API and the billing is under your control. Plus it hooks to all their other services like AI Search.

The Gemini API handles all its billing through Cloud Billing.
Once your project meets the necessary requirements, you’ll see an option to upgrade to the next tier on your API key page.
If you think your project meets those requirements but you don’t see the upgrade button, please send me your Project ID in a direct message so I can look into it for you.
