Dear Google AI / Gemini Language Team,
My name is Abdulla, and I am a developer based in Erbil, Kurdistan Region of Iraq. I am writing to formally request the inclusion of Kurdish (Sorani) as a supported voice language in the Gemini Live API.
Kurdish is spoken by more than 70 million people worldwide, making it one of the largest languages currently absent from your Live API’s voice support list. Despite this, Kurdish (ku) is already recognized across Gemini’s text models — which shows Google understands the language exists. The missing piece is native audio/voice support.
I am currently building a real-time AI assistant for blind and visually impaired Kurdish-speaking users. The app uses the Gemini Live API to stream live camera footage and describe the user’s surroundings through voice — helping them navigate the world independently. This is a genuine accessibility use case, and it directly depends on Kurdish voice support to be useful for its intended audience.
Without native Kurdish voice in the Live API, blind Kurdish users are excluded from this technology — not because the AI can’t understand Kurdish, but simply because voice output in their language is not enabled.
I respectfully ask that the Gemini team:
1. Add Kurdish (Sorani) to the official Live API supported voice languages
2. Consider Kurdish in future audio model training data collection
3. Engage with Kurdish developer communities to accelerate this
I am happy to contribute Kurdish language resources, test the model, provide feedback, or collaborate in any way that helps. There is a growing community of Kurdish developers and content creators eager to build with Google AI — we just need the language support to make it possible.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Best regards,
Abdulla
