Regional Recognition for Urdu and Hindi in Google Gemini

I would like to share an important observation regarding the language recognition capabilities of Google AI, particularly for Urdu (Pakistan) and Hindi.

Currently, the system often recognizes spoken Urdu (Pakistan) as Hindi by default. While this may seem minor, it can lead to misinterpretations and an inaccurate user experience. Both Urdu and Hindi share similarities but differ significantly in script, pronunciation, and regional context.

To enhance user satisfaction and accuracy, I recommend the following:

  1. Regional Language Differentiation: Introduce a feature to distinguish Urdu (Pakistan) and Urdu (India) based on region, as they have subtle but significant differences.

  2. Language Selection Prompt: Allow users to select between Urdu (Pakistan) and Hindi manually or prompt them to confirm their language preference when ambiguity arises.

  3. Dual Language Support: For users who communicate in both Urdu and Hindi, provide an option to enable simultaneous recognition of both languages without defaulting to one.

This enhancement will cater to a broader audience and improve usability for those who speak Urdu in Pakistan or India. It will also showcase Google’s commitment to cultural and linguistic diversity.

This is such an important distinction for me. If I talk to gemini in Urdu it starts writing in Hindi text which I can’t even read.
