Hello Google AI Developers Team,
I need help with an unresolved Gemini API billing issue involving an accidentally selected organization-type Google Payments profile.
My situation:
-
Amount paid: ₹1,000 INR through UPI QR
-
Payment date: 20 October 2026
-
Gemini API usage: ₹0
-
Remaining prepaid balance: ₹1,000
-
Cloud Billing account: Closed
-
Auto-reload: Off
What went wrong:
When setting up billing for the Gemini API in Google AI Studio, I accidentally used an organization-type Google Payments profile instead of an individual profile. The organization profile then required tax information that I could not appropriately complete for my individual use case.
I also have a separate individual Google Payments profile, but I was unable to change the account type of the existing organization profile. This billing setup issue prevented me from using the Gemini API as intended.
I paid ₹1,000 in prepaid credits, but my API usage remained ₹0. The Cloud Billing account was subsequently closed, and the entire ₹1,000 balance remained unused.
The automated billing assistant has not resolved the problem. It explained that transitioning to Postpay requires an eligible automatic payment method. I do not want to authorize further payments or an automatic debit mandate just to seek a refund for the unused balance.
Could the Google team please help with these questions?
-
Is there a way to correct the accidental organization-profile selection or use my individual profile for Gemini API billing?
-
Can my closed billing account and unused ₹1,000 prepaid balance be reviewed for a refund to the original UPI payment method?
-
Is there an official escalation route for this situation that does not require me to authorize automatic payments?
I can provide screenshots of the payment receipt, prepaid balance, zero usage, account status, and the two Payments profiles through an authorized private support channel.
Thank you for your help.
