Request for manual review — 403 PERMISSION_DENIED — Project denied access

Hello Gemini API Team,

I am requesting a manual review of my Gemini API project access.

Every generateContent request from my backend returns:

HTTP 403 PERMISSION_DENIED

“Your project has been denied access. Please contact support.”

I have already completed the recommended account verification steps:

  • Phone number verification is complete.
  • 2-Step Verification is enabled.
  • There is no age-verification warning on my Google Account.

I also tested the Gemini API directly from my local backend using the official Google GenAI SDK, independently of my application logic. The request consistently returns the same 403 project-denied error.

My intended use is a low-volume final-year university project called InterviewIQ AI, an AI-powered interview preparation platform. Gemini is used to generate interview questions and provide educational feedback on candidate answers.

I would like to remain on the Free Tier and am not requesting a paid-tier upgrade.

Could you please manually review the Gemini API access status of this project and restore access if the restriction was applied in error?

Hello @SHALIKA_S ,

Free Tier access cannot be manually enabled for this account. To use the Gemini API, try switching to a verified personal Google Account, or attach a Google Cloud billing account (or add prepayment credits in Google AI Studio).

I have now completed/confirmed the recommended account verification requirements. My personal Google Account has a valid DOB (21 January 2005), phone verification is complete, and 2-Step Verification is enabled.

I also checked the AI Studio Rate Limit page. It shows:
“Project quota tier unavailable”
and
“This Project’s API access is restricted. Please set up billing to continue.”

models.list() succeeds using the official @google/genai SDK, but every generateContent() request returns 403 PERMISSION_DENIED.

I would like to use the Gemini API for my low-volume final-year university project on the Free Tier without enabling billing. Please advise whether this account/project can be made eligible for Free Tier access.

I have not set up billing. Please review my project and restore Gemini API access if possible.
