Proposal: Verified Academic AI API Tier
AI is becoming an essential tool for learning, experimentation, and academic research. However, API limits and costs can make meaningful experimentation difficult for students and researchers.
I propose a Verified Academic AI API Tier providing generous free access to verified students, educators, and researchers.

Eligibility
Access could be verified through a university email, student ID, or institutional affiliation.
The free tier would be limited to education and non-commercial research. Commercial and production use would remain paid.
This would allow students to experiment, build academic projects, conduct research, and learn AI without API costs becoming a major barrier, while rate limits and verification would help prevent abuse.
We are not asking for unlimited access—only enough free access for students to learn, experiment, and innovate.
Commercial users should pay for scale; students and researchers should have the opportunity to learn and innovate.
