Discount/waiver for Academic Research?

Hello,

My name is Marcelo Perlin and I’m an academic from Brazil. Currently, I’m working in a research paper that tests the performance of Gemini as an investor. However, I need to make over 15k queries to Gemini’s API and have no research budget for it. Is there any way I can have a discount of waiver of all API costs.

Please let me know if more details are needed.

Hey @Marcelo_Perlin we provide a free tier on the Gemini API: Gemini API Pricing  |  Google for Developers which is likely the best bet right now.

It is unfortunate that no waiver is available to academic researchers.

While the free tier restrictions for Gemini 1.5 flash are reasonable, it is very restrictive for the more powerful model (gemini 1.5 Pro).

I’ll try my best to use the free tier.

Hi @Marcelo_Perlin I believe there is no research waiver available for any commercial LLMs at the moment. Specially for 15k requests.

However, you can apply to Google Academic Research Credit with your project proposal and see if that gets approved.
You also get initial free $300 when a new GCP account is created. Which should be sufficient for most people.

I am an active academic working in the field, so I understand.
