Hi team — I’m hitting a Tier 2 propagation issue on a production workload and would appreciate help.
The inconsistency:
- AI Studio Billing page shows: Paid 2 · $2,000 Billing Account Tier Cap
- AI Studio Rate Limit page shows: Tier 1
- Error returned on API calls:
429 RESOURCE_EXHAUSTED — Your billing account has exceeded its monthly spending cap
Relevant numbers:
- Gross Gemini API spend April 1–20 (from Cloud Billing Report): $226.97
- Tier 1 cap: $250 (so within ~$23 of the ceiling)
- Tier 2 cap: $2,000
- Manual payment made April 20 for $41.30 to trigger Tier 2 qualification
- Cumulative billing-account spend across all periods: well over the $100 Tier 2 threshold
- First successful payment: more than 3 days ago
I meet the documented Tier 2 criteria ($100 cumulative spend + 3 days elapsed), and the Billing page already reflects Paid 2, but the rate-limiting side is still enforcing Tier 1 limits — which is blocking production image generation (Nano Banana 2 / Gemini 3.1 Flash Image) on Starfilled Stories.
Request: Could someone confirm whether the Tier 2 upgrade is in-flight, or whether there’s a block I need to resolve on my end? Happy to DM billing account ID and project numbers (5 projects on the account, primary impacted project uses SKU Gemini 3.1 Flash Image Image Output — Predictions).
