Antigravity "update" is a .....and switch "upgrade"

Google product genius at it’s finest.

  1. Prompt user to “update.”
  2. Install a new application with a namespace collision with the app that was helping you be productive.
  3. Hide the actual “update” at the bottom of an install page.
  4. Make the new app unusable and unresponsive. Break the information hierarchy. Break the ux in favor of copy-cat ui.

Even after I managed to install Antigravity IDE 2 on its own, it was a completely clean environment that failed to connect to WSL2 (URLs not found). Had to wipe everything clean and reinstall the previous version 1.23.2 and disabled auto-updates. What a trainwreck.

Why does it seem like Antigravity is entirely run by a solo vibe coder.. In the new interface I can’t even open the Editor view, I’m stuck in the Agent view..

Its amazing how:

  • they tell you theyll add Antigravity IDE as well, but its just the same app with a dark skin.
  • uninstalling only removes 2.0 not 2.0 IDE
  • IDE cant even view files, whats the point?

They’re just trying to force you to use their agent when Gemini is blatantly weaker for coding that other models. I guess its only good as an orchestrator.

Can’t view or edit files, can’t navigate in the project files, can’t run the project directly without needing to ask the agent to do so… What hell is going on!? Why? Going back to VSCode…

Same issue, claims to keep regular IDE, even has 2 separate apps for it to download/install… Both only open Agent View, no way to switch back.
Gemini/etc claims there is a way & walks you through 50 steps only to admit later on that all was stripped & no way to switch back (unless u use an old version which im sure they will stop supporting/going to have issues soon) & all instructions it is giving you are wrong & “sorry you are upset”…
Very disappointing.
Forced to switch to VS Code

Happened to me at work today and screwed my whole workflow up. I had been trying it out and using it religiously and it was pretty sweet, but this stupidly done, breaking update forced me to switch back to standard vscode and Claude after wasting probably an hour trying to get Antigravity “IDE” (lmao) working again, to no avail. This felt dropped out of nowhere and horribly done. I really hope they fix the product soon and figure out wtf they’re doing. I was enjoying it and using it pretty productively before this.

The “update” being an “upgrade” is already a big no-no that any actual developer would know not to do.

The “update” being an installation of a completely different application that uses the same name and config folders as the current application is a phenomenal botch.

I wonder if there are any human developers working on google or if it’s all vibecoded now.

Antigravity “update” is a bait and switch “upgrade” and it sucks

WHAT? No it has not been “resolved” Google!

The new style isn’t a developer space; it’s better to work with Visual Studio and the Codex plugin. The new interface isn’t functional for our development work and is more like a prompt console.
I was very happy with the developer interface and the consultant guide.

I’m done with anti-gravity i don’t know when they over during my project so I’m switching vs code with codex extension at least they don’t experiment with there loyal users.. it’s difficult to switching in free era but my project is too important than there experiment i don’t wanna become experiment rat for Google lab.. :folded_hands: sorry google your experiment ruin my project..

We all got same issue and same solution, back to vs code with codex. lol

I thought I was the only one but I can see there are many others with the same bug. Installed the new update and now I’m locked in the agent view. This thread says that the issue has been resolved but I don’t see any solution. Does anyone has any helpful tip to share here and get rid of this issue? Thanks.

Completely agree. it’s an absolute mess. Can’t even open MY CODE. Uninstalled.

I myself was also really enjoying Antigravity and this update has really messed up my productivity for today, am thinking that perhaps just take a break for the day and hopefully an update comes in between now and tomorrow morning that resolves this bug. Am staying very optimistic and calling the Antigravity and Antigravity IDE conflict a massive bug and am trusting that Google Gemini team are rapidly working on resolving.

So with the Antigravity upgrade I noticed that it is best to uninstall all apps, and install Antigravity IDE first and then Antigravity, by doing this you gain access to both.

with this update! Was telling everyone about Anti Gravity. Completely it. Going to go back to VS Code

This upgrade is horrible. I honestly don’t understand how something like this was approved at Google. The previous version was actually quite good, but Antigravity 2.0 feels unfinished, chaotic, and far less productive despite the expensive subscription.

  1. copy your old appdata folder to a new location. This saves your history, etc.

  2. Uninstall all AG programs.

  3. install AG IDE only. It’s at the end of the downloads page.

  4. start it and login, then close.

  5. find the new appdata folder and copy you old appdata contents on top of the new directory.

  6. restart and reinstall your extensions.

This is how I actually fixed this abomination of an update. Downgrade isn’t needed, but the idea of a coding app that I can’t look at the actual code is one of the dumbest ideas I have ever seen.

This update is ridiculous, I burn through my usage twice as fast and half of that is the model messing up.

Not worth to pay for this
