About prohibition of advertisements

Hi, @Lloyd_Hightower

With the launch of the People’s Choice Award, I think there has been an increase in posts promoting this community.

Could you please prohibit “promotion” as a community policy?

I think it’s a good idea for everyone to post in threads of participants’ works and videos, but I don’t think it’s a good idea for companies and individuals to post individually to promote their apps and works.

I def agree with this, this forum purpose isn’t related to promoting apps, besides there is going to be a lot of spam. With 3,000 projects involved, it’s likely that many people will start posting links to their apps here, which could clutter the forum and distract from the actual discussions about the competition.

I honestly have no idea why they post it asking for votes.

It is also pretty pointless to post “me, please” to the forum. There’s minimal engagement with the general public here; you’re basically soliciting votes from your competitors.

I’m disinclined to believe that Google mods would restrict links to Gemini competition use-cases out of hand for the sake of a clean forum experience. Besides getting developers on the API platform for exploration, the promotion of feasible Gemini applications is what the contest is likely meant to stimulate and produce.

Perhaps a good policy would be “corral”.

Prediction: the winner will be chosen by a rich-off-YouTube lifestyle-promoting influencer with an army of teen button-clickers, and what gets liked will be vastly different from the scoring criteria.

The best thread for promote is “Share your submission video!”. Either post a single thread just for promotion is redundant
