It’s crucial that you DO NOT update or change your YouTube video. Sad to say because I know how hard you all worked but if you do, your submission will be disqualified.
Here’s why: When you update a YouTube video, even with minor changes, the URL of the video changes. This breaks the link in your submission, and I can no longer view your video. I have already encountered several instances where previously working videos are now unavailable due to updates.
I understand you’ve worked hard on your projects, and I don’t want to disqualify anyone at all. However, we must maintain a fair and level playing field for all participants. Submitting a project on time with a working video is a fundamental requirement which people had, but are now trying to improve on which breaks the link.
If the core essence of your app is captured in your original video, please trust me you have nothing to worry about. Small surface-level tweaks and edits will not significantly impact your chances but will disqualify you.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. There becomes a point legally where it is out of my hands and what’s written in the rules supersedes all.
I made a mistake in the title of my video, and fixed the name , that was all! the Google form we filled our submission details and youtube link, I sent a copy to myself via email, I just check the link and it still works perfectly and directs you to the video. Can you please be a little more specific about the changes or updates you mean that could break the link or at the very least, give a list of participants that this happened too and did not meet the base criteria, so we’d know our fates, THANK YOU @Lloyd_Hightower
As far as I know, YouTube doesn’t change video IDs if you change anything inside the video (like editing the description or title or hashtags or adding chapters, etc). This means that YouTube links shouldn’t change either.
I think what @Lloyd_Hightower meant was that he found various applications that didn’t have a proper YouTube video URL (i.e. if you tap the link then it says video not found or something).
This might’ve been because many people submitted applications with a video and then deleted that video and re-uploaded a new one without updating their application before the deadline. Either this or that some people just didn’t validate their YouTube video links before sending and they are now broken links in the applications.
Good to read that, I’ll not even touch the YT video description for now.
Related question: I worked on the project (source code) since the hackathon ended, could that be a problem?
(Since it’s open source and on GitHub, it’s fairly easy to see the snapshot at the time of the hackathon end GitHub - CsabaConsulting/InspectorGadgetApp at b7de11fa3d9122fd96b85e7c708802b371bb15c9)
