Please I think everybody here needs to know whether we can edit, change, work or fix bugs/codes in our application after the deadline, we need a response ASAPPPP!!!
We will begin judging at the beginning of September or whenever I finish distilling all invalid submissions. Whichever comes first…
Is it possible to tell what would be the criteria for the invalid submissions. Like if you can tell in short?
Thank you!
Hi @Lloyd_Hightower, is it allowed to update the deployed version? I’d like to make the UI more suitable for public use as I plan to open my app for voting, including adding a welcome screen and other enhancements. I tried to access the rules, but I can’t find the link anymore. Thank you in advance.
I haven’t participated in a hackathon were changes to the submission are allowed after the deadline, otherwise what’s the point of it?
I would not risk being disqualified until you get confirmation from officials
I initially thought that as long as the core functionality (Gemini) wasn’t changed, it might be okay. But on second thought, you’re right, it doesn’t make sense.
thanks @domingosl
Submissions by under 18, unsupported countries, videos under 30 seconds, code doesn’t use Gemini, app doesn’t work on live url or cannot be compiled (if code only submissions) etc. List goes on and on. I’ve watched many videos by searching “Gemini Competition” or “#buildwithgemini” uploaded this month on YouTube and found many that disqualify as well.
Google will be judging your submission based on you write-up on the submission form + video + code you’ve submitted as of the deadline date.
- You can’t change your write-up after you’ve submitted the Google form. It’s not technically possible.
- You can’t change your YouTube video after you’ve submitted the link on Google form either. It’s not technically possible.
- You can technically change your code if it’s an open-source project URL on Github BUT the judges will likely check your code based on your revision history as of the deadline date. So it doesn’t matter if you change your code here.
- You can technically change your uploaded codebase zipped file after the deadline BUT it’s pretty easy to see the uploaded date there and judges will likely disqualify your code part of the submission if you do this.
For many of us, the products we made for the Gemini competition aren’t JUST for the competition, it’s a potential business that we’re planning to launch or are in the process of launching. The judges know this and will likely be happier if you polish your live version of the app. Why? Well, if your app wins one of the categories, Google will be blogging or making videos about your app submissions to promote Gemini. If people download or try your app online after seeing you’ve won any competition category, they will want those apps to look great and keep Google’s image great.
That’s the whole point of this competition i.e. encourage or accustom developers to use Gemini API worldwide and showcase the power of Gemini to everyone.
This is spot on @luluthepooh
In short right off the bat if someone did not provide a valid YT link/YT video is years old/irrelevant or didn’t provide code I am going through and disqualifying them.
I’ll take that as a yes, then. Like @luluthepooh mentioned, I really want to continue and expand my project. It’s a passion project that I’ve wanted to start for a long time but was limited by various factors. I’m excited to polish my app so that more people interested to try it out. Thank you guys
Are they notified, and if so, how?
Hey. Greetings. I know this isn’t the right topic and I apologise but, I want to tell about my submission on linkedIn, can I do that and what should I not mention in terms rules, I read something in rules about getting disqualified for promoting the app post the submission end. So, I want to clearly know about the stuff I can say and keep (like the youtube link of the app) .
Thank you.
I don’t think there is any restriction for how and where we promote our app after submission
small query, but important query, would you mind confirm weather you have received my submission with the following details
email id: suryacharandiv143@gmail.com
project name: AVARTA Life
it is my humble request, it is months old hardwork
@Lloyd_Hightower I removed old comments I forgot to remove from my codebase and I freaked out after doing that thinking I voided the competition. Is that okay, because I didn’t change anything just removed the comments that were their already?
I’m only reading this and I kept developing the app. On the day of the submission I didn’t make any modifications after the deadline, however the consecutive days I did. I really hope that’s not a biggie because I can point to the cutoff commit: GitHub - CsabaConsulting/InspectorGadgetApp at b7de11fa3d9122fd96b85e7c708802b371bb15c9
(The good thing with the hackathon is that my project will keep evolving, I enjoyed my own creation a lot - I’m highly partial -, and I will keep using and improving it. Think about a Gemini Live (Made By Google 24’ happened after it) but with an on-device vector DB + RAG and for smart watch form factor. Not the most original thing in the world but super useful every day.)
