Will Publishing My Flutter App Before the Competition Affect the Results?

I’m considering publishing my Flutter app on the Play Store and App Store before submitting it to the competition. Could this impact the competition results in any way?

Yes, it can’t be an already released application, but you should be fine to release it after the competition.

@grandell1234 However, the submission form includes a field labeled “Website or web app URL - If your app is live, please share the URL,” suggesting that previously released apps may be permitted.

The idea behind the rule is that it must be something you created specifically for this competition.

Where the form reads,

Website or web app URL

the implication I get is that whatever you build would be directly accessible and usable through that URL.

But… we shouldn’t look to the submission form for insights into the rules, just look at the competition rules,

The Gemini API Developer Competition (the “Promotion”) is a skill-based challenge where entrants who meet all eligibility requirements may submit an entry form (“form”), and a video demonstration of their application (the “app”) that introduces a new and/or innovative app/project. The app/project integrates a publicly available Gemini model* via the Gemini API.

Submission must meet the following Submission requirements:

  • Create a new and innovative product or service that integrates a publicly available Gemini model via the Gemini API.

So you might be able to publish your app to the Google Play Store prior to the end of the competition but it is probably better if you don’t.

You would probably want to submit your application to the contest before pushing it to the Play Store.

At the end of the day, I don’t think Google would be very likely to disqualify you if the first published date of your application on the Play Store is after the start of the competition but before the end of the competition because your application would, by any reasonable standard, still count as new for the purposes of the competition.

The end of the competition is only 10 weeks away, is there some pressing reason you can’t simply wait?

I also found another response addressing this matter. It would be helpful to have confirmation from a Google representative.:pray:

It can be a new or existing project! It does not need to be from scratch. It just needs to integrate the Gemini API

Yes confirmed. If you have an old app/project you have previously built and want to integrate the Gemini API to create a new innovative version of that app. That is allowed.
