My Gemini API project was working initially but now every request returns:
403 PERMISSION_DENIED: Your project has been denied access. Please contact support.
Project ID: capstone-4963..
Region: Philippines
Billing: Free tier / no billing account
The error occurs with newly created API keys as well.
Please review the project/account restriction and restore Gemini API access.

Getting a 403 API error response and / or seeing “Unavailable” next to your project in AI audio indicates a flag has been placed on your account. To proceed:
- If you’re on the free tier with no billing attached, you should consider setting up billing. In most cases this is enough to clear any flag on your account. Please note this will mean you lose your free tier quota. You should also see a banner in AI studio prompting you to set up billing.
In addition to Pooja’s response, Ensure that you’ve done Phone Verification and turned on 2-Step Verification (2SV) on the Google Account associated with your project. Once verified, retry your request or create a new API key in Google AI Studio.
