Why do I get the You've reached your rate limit, SO QUICKLY! Do any of yall Devs know? Please Help?

So I love Google AI Studio and use it for anything I do needing AI, but I have a big problem- You’ve reached your rate limit. Please try again later. I don’t know why it says this I have been using AI Studio for about 2 years since then I have never got it once, but now everyday for the past 2 weeks I keep getting- You’ve reached your rate limit. Please try again later. This makes it so any project or anything I do takes SO MUCH MORE TIME. Like before I could go past 200k tokens in one day now I cant even bypass 10k tokens and its not like the prompts are big, almost everyday I start out a new one. Does anyone know the problem because its causing big problems and any other AI (like ChatGpt or perplexity.)I use . Also the main AI I use is Gemini 2.5 Pro, which has a temperature of 2 most of the time and always has “Grounding with Google Search” and “URL context”. The thing is I have been using these settings since Gemini 2.5 Pro came out on AI Studio so I don’t know what the problem is. Also I don’t really create any images, I only import lots of images, but I have found that that uploading images doesn’t change how fast you get the You’ve reached your rate limit. Please try again later. Also I have always been on the free tier.

It’s mostly because the free prompts have been severely reduced. It was 50 last time, then 20 and now 3.0 is 10 free prompts and 2.5 5 free prompts.

I believe it has to do with Logan on Twitter mentioning they’re transitioning it to be fully API key based.

And no, they haven’t announced the reduction of the rate limits and instead relied on a few comments in the Google forums to do so

Grounding with Google Search and URL context both consume additional quota on top of the base model call - each grounded request effectively costs 2-3x in rate limit terms. Google also reduced free tier limits for 2.5 Pro recently. Try turning off grounding when you don’t need search results and switch to Flash for simpler tasks - Flash has much higher free tier quotas.

Ok thanks its just that I got so confused because one day I could do all my work without using AI and now I can’t even finish half of one assignment, but thanks for the feedback Endmin and Algis, and Algis I will look in to turning off grounding thanks. One last question is there no way to have more quota (other than turning off grounding and URL context) is there any way to have more of it or do I just have to upgrade? Also does quota work with the whole platform or only 1 Model, if so only 1 Model can I use like 2.5 pro until it runs out and than switch to flash or no is it for the whole AI studio platform.
