Why are we unable to add files directly to a folder? This is obnoxious having them added to the root

Hi @paradroid , Welcome to the forum.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. It looks like there is an issue with adding files directly to the folder. I will escalate this to the product team.

Thank you for the quick update! I appreciate you getting back to me so promptly.

To clarify my original post, here is a breakdown of the workflow I was envisioning for handling local files within the AI Studio Builder interface:

Suggested Workflow: Direct File Upload to Folders

My primary goal is to upload local files from my machine directly into a specific folder within the project structure.

  • Current Process:

    1. Click “Add File.”
    2. The file uploads to the root directory.
    3. Manually move the file from the root to the desired folder.
  • Challenge with Current Process: This process is difficult to perform while the Builder agent is actively making changes. The central file/editor panel continuously auto-refreshes to display the file being modified by the agent, interrupting any manual file organization.

Proposed UI Enhancements:

To improve this, I suggest adding functionality directly to the folder items in the file explorer. Here are a couple of ideas:

  1. “Add New File” in Folder: When hovering over a folder, a “+” icon could appear. Clicking this would create a new, blank file directly within that folder.
  2. “Upload File(s)” to Folder: A dedicated “upload” icon (perhaps the standard upward-pointing arrow) could also appear on hover. Clicking this would open the file selection dialog and upload the chosen file(s) directly into that specific folder.

Ultimately, having a clear UI element on the folder itself to either create a new file or upload existing ones would be a significant workflow improvement.

I hope this walkthrough clarifies the intent behind my initial feedback. I’ll be sure to log any further suggestions here as I come across them.
