Can’t find it anywhere!
Please, open a ticket on this issue via Google support. We need to draw their attention to this problem.
I already contacted the customer service and send an email. Hope to get a reply. There have been such problems before, but this time the problem has occurred for a long time.
I have three opened tickets and still no answer, only that they escalated to the backend team.
Hello @Rime @Noxx_Aaren ,
To ensure reliable performance for everyone, we are limiting access to the 2.5 models to users who have actively used them in the past. These models are not deprecated and will continue to be served until further notice.
This restriction now also applies to Google AI Studio, where the gemini-2.5-xxx are no longer available.
For your new projects, please use our latest models: 3.5 Flash-Lite or 3.8 Flash. This helps us maintain sufficient capacity for both ongoing legacy workflows and new applications.
@Pooja_Kapse , I don’t have any projects, I use 2.5 Pro model strictly in the Playground workspace. I have several threads I’m working in there now. I am on Google One pro paid plan, so why did Google switched off 2.5 pro model for me and other users who pay for it?
There is no deprecation date on Gemini deprecation page and I haven’t received any official letters from Google that Pro subscription was modified this arrogant way.
Could you please show any official Google document here explaining why Gemini 2.5 pro model was switched off in paid subscriptions?
Greetings. I use 2.5pro almost every day. Could you please tell us what the specific criteria of “active users” are?
In addition, why did your official website change the time of 2.5pro to unannounced? Please issue an official official website notice on whether 2.5pro can continue to be used for our reference.
Here’s the error message I get
This model models/gemini-2.5-pro is no longer available to new users. Please update your code to use models/gemini-3.1-pro-preview for the latest features and improvements. We recommend you to use the Interactions API. (Tested with: Google AI Studio | google/gemini-2.5-pro)
I used 2.5-pro with a different API key in the past. I think because I have a new API key it appears as retired. I’m happy to migrate to a newer model but I’m hoping soon we will have some kind of Long Term Support model so we don’t have to scramble.
