I am writing to report an issue with model availability in Google AI Studio.
The gemini-2.5-pro model no longer appears as available under my usage limits. I was successfully making API requests with this model just last week, and as recently as yesterday, everything was working normally.
However, as of today, the model has disappeared from the list. This issue persists even when I click to show ‘all models’ in the ‘Usage and billing’ section.
Could someone please advise on this? Is this a known issue, or has the model been intentionally removed/restricted from the free usage tier?
It’s just like any of their changes. It’s always sneaky. They removed it even from rate limits page and didn’t say anything. Safe to assume there won’t be anymore 2.5 Pro.
This type of behaviour (lack of transparency) is exactly why I moved away from Openai and have been reccomeneding Gemini nonstop to colleagues as an alternative.
It’s a huge shame that Google has decided to head in the same direction.
Yes, it’s like the situation when openai launched gpt 5 and removed 4o. The situation is so similar because I think 2.5pro is also better than 3pro in some aspects. This could destroy users’ trust.
Hey! Yes, we turned down the 2.5 Pro free limits which were originally only supposed to be available for a single weekend. We have a huge amount of demand for 3.0 Pro and Nano Banana Pro right now so needed to move capacity there.
In general, for any models on the free tier, you should expect a highly unstable service. We are not building or providing guarantees on this tier and I would personally suggest not putting something into production with it. If you want to use the paid API tier 1, you can still access all of the models.
I literally desparate! It was working yesterday and i was able to work and function. Now i cant use Gemini 2.5 Pro on my n8n workflow! Please, i need to know if will be back or they will make changes! There is nothing as good as 2.5 pro and FOR FREE in the market! I NEED HELP!!!
I don’t think that’s the only point here. The best way for any company to disjoint any that deal with, is to make changes without any notification - especially removing products people use. There’s a clear lack of customer care, and the absence of any warning is a clear company approach style that is careless to existing customers. If a company treats customers like this, it’s hard to trust that they understand what proper service means, and shows a poor culture attitude towards its customers, paid or not.
Yeah I hear you, we will do better to make sure to frame the free tier correctly, which is that it’s unstable, best effort, can be turned off at any time, and should not be relied on for any real application.
Whole point with Free Tier users is that they can’t afford to pay a monthly fee. People only want to know IF the Free Tier for Gemini 2.5 pro will be available again, or not.
