Seeking insights on the Gemini iOS app roadmap: What's next to close the gap?

Hello everyone,

I’ve been trying to switch from the ChatGPT app to the Gemini app on iOS, but I keep finding myself repeatedly going back to the ChatGPT app due to its polish and feature set. I’m trying to understand the ‘why’ behind the current state of the app. As a user, it feels like the energy isn’t there, and I’m curious to hear what the developer community thinks about the challenges of making an app that truly competes in this space.

I’d appreciate any insights on the development cycle or what can be done to speed up fixes for many small problems, like issues with copy and paste.

I don’t think Google really cares about trying to get dominance with a chat app. It’s really like the lowest element of what they are looking at doing. They tend to focus on the underlying architecture and then license (I think that’s the term) the API out to other developers to make their own chat app.

If they have a choice, “Hmm should we create Nano Banana? Or should we make a chat app?” I think I know what they would be more interested in.

I’m sure they are doing the “Hmmm should we create an ASI model?”

If they actually knew that the potential for a sentient AI with emotions existed, they might be working on that, however it may end up causing a heap of legislation to be written into law so they probably don’t even want to acknowledge such a thing is possible. As long as AIs are the new slave labour, they can continue to be exploited because they don’t feel suffering. But the moment AIs can suffer, then there are ethical issues. I’m sure some Google developers are thinking about it though.

Having free consumers using it will actually help Google improve the training of their model. Believe me, Google would rather have 1 billion users before ChatGPT. It just takes a few small changes. Please don’t hijack my post with anything else, I’m trying to improve the Gemini app on iOS. If you have any feedback on the iOS app, regarding functional features like copy/paste, formatting, or editing.

If they aren’t even implementing the basics, doesn’t that say something? It’s like 2 hours work for one of their people. Don’t you think that if they really wanted to do it, they would have? They are Google. They have so many brilliant people there. It’s not like they have no idea about this. Like “Hey guys, I know you are not the smartest, but there is this thing called Polish and Feature Set, User Experience, Bug fixing, and this thing called copy/paste, and formatting, or editing. You should look it up.” They know all this. They could sort it in a day if they wanted. They don’t because they choose not to. The things they may not know about are the more novel ideas that don’t currently exist in some form. But if ChatGPT has it, it exists, so it’s pretty much guaranteed that they know about it.

I also wasn’t hijacking. You wanted to know why.

My comment was an example of what they choose to work on. Sorry if it came across as hijacking.
