Request for Manual Review — Gemini API 403 PERMISSION_DENIED / Restricted Projects

Hello Google Gemini API Support Team,

I’m a university student currently developing an n8n automation project that uses Gmail, Gemini AI, and Telegram to summarize emails, generate draft replies, and send them for approval.

Unfortunately, I’m unable to use Gemini’s content generation API because my Google AI Studio projects are marked as Restricted.

Project details:

  • Project name: n8n Gmail Automation

  • Project ID: n8n-gmail-automation-5122..

  • Status: Restricted

  • Billing tier: Unavailable

  • Another affected project: Default Gemini Project

Error received:

403 PERMISSION_DENIED

“Your project has been denied access. Please contact support.”

Troubleshooting completed:

  • Enabled the Gemini API in Google Cloud Console.

  • Created a Gemini API key through Google AI Studio.

  • Successfully connected to the Gemini API and retrieved the available model list.

  • Tested content-generation requests using different Gemini models.

  • Confirmed that the API returns 403 when generating content.

I’m using Gemini for a low-volume educational project and would like to continue using the eligible free tier without enabling paid billing.

Could you please review my account and project restrictions, explain why access has been denied, and advise whether my free-tier access can be restored?

I can provide additional project details privately if required.

Thank you for your assistance.

Hi @Lydia_Youssef,
Getting a 403 API error response and / or seeing “Unavailable” next to your project in AI studio indicates a flag has been placed on your account. To proceed:

  1. If you’re on the free tier with no billing attached, please try the below steps:

  2. Check Model Availability & Rate Limits:

    • Ensure that the model you are requesting is available on your current plan. For example, not all models are available on the free tier. You can verify model availability, quotas, and limits on the AI Studio Rate Limit dashboard.
  3. Ensure you have completed age verification by navigating to Google Account Age Verification and verifying date of birth in Google Account Personal Info.

  4. Once age verification is configured, retry your request or create a new API key in Google AI Studio.

  5. If completing these steps still does not restore access (or if using a model requiring a paid tier), you might want to consider adding prepayment credits directly in Google AI Studio and/ or attaching a Google Cloud Billing account in the Google Cloud Console. Please note this will mean you lose your free tier quota.
