I have built a personal job-search automation script which has been working fine until today. I now receive the below error:
403 PERMISSION_DENIED: “Your project has been denied access. Please contact support.”

My Gemini API is enabled and the API key is valid, however the API key is now restricted and I also cannot create a new API key. I can’t even see my usage reports any more as of today. This points towards an account-level issue rather than a project-level issue.
This is under a personal Google account. Free tier and no account billing for Cloud, but I have recently upgraded to Google AI pro to increase my AI capability. I note in the plan details, AI Pro should include "Expanded limits in AI Studio5, Google Antigravity and Jules.6".
There is no policy violation or unusual usage that I am aware of. My usage for this project does also fall within free-tier Google Cloud limits from my understanding.
Please help me understand why my account has been restricted in this way and help me resolve this ASAP.

Google AI Pro subscription benefits apply to interactive usage within the Google AI Studio web app, while programmatic API calls are tied to Google Cloud project tiering and billing.
Our records indicate that you recently linked a billing account to the project gen-lang-client-002611..., and should no longer be getting 403 errors.
On a side note, Please note that Google AI Pro subscription makes you eligible for $10 in monthly Google Cloud credits from Google Developer Programme. Please follow these steps if not already claimed:
- Select the benefit in your Google Developer Program dashboard
- Select a billing account to apply the credit to.
However you will need to deposit a minimum amount at https://aistudio.google.com/billing before AIS lets you use these credits in case you start receiving 429 prepayments credit depleted error.
Hi @Mahesh_Sutar . Thanks for your reply. I have now added the monthly credits benefit from my Google AI Pro account to the Google Cloud billing account I recently linked to the project. This billing account was added when I signed up for a 90-day free trial for Google Cloud. I want to test the potential before financially committing. With that in mind, before I deposit a minimum amount to this project, I am not sure whether to add that to the same billing account that I set up for my free trial or a new one. The reason I ask is that when I click the button to set up Prepay, there is a note that says: “By selecting this Google Cloud Free Trial Billing account, you agree to upgrade it to a Paid billing account to pay for services. You can still use any remaining credit on eligible products (excludes Gemini API) until it expires.” I don’t necessarily want to upgrade my free trial to a paid billing account before I have had a chance to test out what I can do with it. I was also under the impression that the amount of credits I was previously using each day, before I signed up to Google AI Pro, fell within the free tier. So I still don’t really understand why I need to set up a Prepay Billing account (or any type of billing account) in order to regain use of my Gemini API Key? Please clarify.
Please ensure that you’ve completed Phone Verification and turned on 2-Step Verification (2SV) on the Google Account associated with your project. Once verified, retry your request or create a new API key in Google AI Studio.
If verifying your account does not restore access (or if using a model requiring a paid tier), then you might want to try adding prepayment credits directly in Google AI Studio or attaching a Google Cloud Billing account in the Google Cloud Console to resolve the error.
Thanks @Aakash_Bansal . I figured it out. The original 403 error was because I had not completed age verification. I was then still restricted because I had signed up for a Google Cloud Free Trial and set up a billing account linked to it. So my API key then got linked to that, and I had to set up prepaid billing and add funds before I could use any free credits. Having completed age verification, I am now able to create new API keys again and select whether I link them to a paid tier or free tier account
