Request for manual review — 403 PERMISSION_DENIED: Gemini API project restricted

Hello,

I am requesting a manual review of a Gemini API project that appears to have been restricted unexpectedly.

Project details:

Project name: Default Gemini Project
Project ID: gen-lang-client-07961283..
Project number: 596851993..

Current status in Google AI Studio:

  • Project status: Restricted
  • Quota tier: unavailable
  • Billing tier: unavailable
  • API access: restricted

Every Gemini API request returns:

403 PERMISSION_DENIED — Your project has been denied access. Please contact support.

Use case:

This project is used only for a private, server-side quality-assurance workflow for an original Spanish-language manuscript.

The API is used to review manuscript text for language quality, editorial consistency, and meaning preservation.

The API key is not exposed in browser or client-side code. It is stored only as an encrypted GitHub Actions repository secret and is accessed by a private automated workflow.

There is no public API-key exposure and no attempt to bypass API restrictions or quotas.

Two other independent Google projects used for the same legitimate text-QA workflow are currently able to call the same Gemini model successfully. The restriction appears to be specific to this project.

Request:

Please manually review the restriction or flag applied to project:

gen-lang-client-07961283..

and restore Gemini API access / free-tier quota eligibility if the restriction was applied in error.

I can provide redacted logs, request details, or screenshots if required.

Thank you.

Hello @Yeremey ,
Getting a 403 API error response and / or seeing “Unavailable” next to your project in AI audio indicates a flag has been placed on your account. To proceed:

  1. If you’re on the free tier with no billing attached, you should consider setting up billing. In most cases this is enough to clear any flag on your account. Please note this will mean you lose your free tier quota. You should also see a banner in AI studio prompting you to set up billing.

  2. If you are on a paid tier, check for banners / error callouts in the AI Studio Projects page & the Billing page. Mostly these flags cause visible banners or other errors on these pages with concrete next steps / appeal links. You can also check the email address associated with your project for information on next steps.
