Persistent "Failed to generate API key" error after Nov 10th outage

Hello everyone, I am looking for help with a persistent error in Google AI Studio. Yesterday (November 10th), during the massive platform outage (when many users had “black screen” and “429 quota” errors), I started receiving the following error when trying to create an API key: > Failed to generate API key, The API key generation failed. Please try again. Today (November 11th), the platform seems to be stable for most users, but I am still getting this exact same error. It seems my account or project is “stuck” in a bad state from yesterday’s crash. I have already tried: * Waiting overnight (the error persists today). * Using an Incognito/Private browser window. * Using a completely different browser. * Logging out and logging back in. Is this a known issue for some accounts after the outage? It feels like a permission or backend problem with my specific account. Thank you for any help.

Hi @Hugo2
Welcome to the AI Forum!!!

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Could you please check if you also have the following permissions on your GCP project:

  • apikeys.keys.create
  • resourcemanager.projects.update
  • serviceusage.services.enable

As a temporary workaround, please generate your API key directly from the Google Cloud Console by following these steps:

  1. Go to the GCP Console
  2. Navigate to APIs & Services
  3. Create Credentials
Select your project and create a new API key.

Once the key is created, use it in place of the one from AI Studio.
