This is pretty frustrating. How come there’s 0 documentation about this issue and 0 answers from google across 5 different threads asking exactly the same thing?
Google dropped the ball hard on this one.
Before you ask:
Yes, gemini API is enabled for all my projects. Yes, I’m the owner of all my projects. Yes, it’s available in my country.
Apologies for the delay. The team is aware of the issue, as some users have experienced similar problems. We have escalated the matter, and our team is actively working on it. We will provide an update as soon as we have more information.
Let me know if you’d like any changes!
Okay, I can only share that I did two things and it works now.
I enabled the apis indicated above, they have a recommended set and I clicked to enable all. I also search for AI and enable all services that looks like related.
Previously I used up my project quota, so I applied to raise the quota.
Then your problem was most definitely different and unrelated to mine. The only API required to be able to use google AI studio API keys is generative language api. The ones you mentioned are needed for Vertex AI, not AI studio (different things).
Regardless, I also enabled the ones you mention just in case, and the issue persists.
It’s also not a project quota issue, as I have 12 unused projects already.
EDIT: I’m not sure what changed exactly, but after I tried to create an API key today once more, it actually worked. Maybe the servers needed some time to reflect latest status after the above suggested changes.
