Messages deletions do not free tokens — token counter stuck at 957,483 / 1,048,576 (Gemini 3 Pro Preview, paid API key)

Hello!

Summary
I’m experiencing an issue in Google AI Studio with a project that uses Gemini 3 Pro Preview and a paid API key. The chat token counter for the project reads 957,483 / 1,048,576. I attempted to free tokens by deleting messages and AI responses, but after refreshing the page the deleted messages reappear (and token usage remains unchanged). As a result, I risk exhausting my token quota and am unable to continue work on the project. Is this how it should be, or do I have some kind of mistake?

Hello, you probably forget to click “Save” after deleting. Click the three vertical dots in the upper right corner of the screen, then click “Saved to Drive.”
