I only have a Macbook. Is that enough? Or will I be at a disadvantage to people who have very powerful laptops / cluster of computers?

I’m guessing you’re asking about the developer competition?
You will be just fine with a Macbook. Many devs develop professionally on macbooks.
Don’t worry too much about advantages/disadvantages before you get started. Build first, ask questions later.
Anytime I hear someone worry or think that they need a power tool/device without a very particular reason for it, I will remind them that the 2D art of Persona 5 was made on a Wacom 3.
You will be fine :). Now go play around in your macbook and have fun building!
