Intermittent Blurry Image Generations with Nano Banana Using Identical Prompts

Hi Google AI Studio Team,

We are seeing intermittent image quality issues when using Nano Banana image generation.

Issue Summary:
Using the exact same prompt and generation settings, some outputs are high quality while others are extremely blurry and unusable. The requests complete successfully and images are returned, but a subset of the generations appear to fail to produce a coherent image.

Expected Behavior:
All generated images should maintain a reasonable minimum quality level and accurately represent the prompt content.

Actual Behavior:
Within the same batch, some images are sharp and detailed while others contain only blurred color gradients and vague silhouettes with little or no recognizable subject detail.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Use the attached prompt. I am giving you the following images: product images and model in input. Do an ecommerce catalog photoshoot of this garment. But keep the following instruction in mind as a holy grail.
Camera: Make the shot look like one taken from a canon EOS Rebel SL3/250D .
    Image scaling: 4x high resolution

    Model:
Age: Generate a 4 year old from the model headshot I have given and keep the body also accordingly.
Shot: A hyper-realistic close-up that focuses on garment.
Background: This is captured in an indoor setting filled with soft, natural light coming from a large, paneled window on the right. The background features a clean, minimalist aesthetic with cream-colored wooden wall paneling below the window sill. The floor is made of rustic, dark wood planks. Outside the window, blurry green foliage is visible, giving the entire scene a warm, cozy, and serene atmosphere, reminiscent of a Scandinavian or cottage-inspired home.
Style with: Joyful and Charming smile. and pair bottom with black relaxed denim pants.
Pose: The model is striking a casual yet poised pose. She is leaning slightly against a wall with her back or with side of the body

Keep all the details the same. Please refer to the product photos I have given and make sure the details in the product are kept the same. I have attached the close up texture of the product also for you to fill in any details you are not able to gather from the full shot.

  2. Generate multiple images.

  3. Observe that some outputs are high quality while others are heavily blurred.

  4. Repeat several times.

Additional Information:

  • Platform: Google AI Studio

  • Model: Nano Banana 3.1 flash

  • Same prompt used for all generations

  • No API errors returned

  • Screenshot attached showing successful and failed outputs side by side.

Questions:

  1. Is this expected variance in the model output?

  2. Is there a known issue affecting image quality consistency?

  3. Are there recommended settings or best practices to reduce these failed generations?

Thank you for investigating.

I’m having the same issue on both aistudio and using api both with 3.1 flash image model. Haven’t tried with other models.

The model is completely broken on every platform, they better refund all of todays credits. Unbelievable.

This just started happening to me via api.

Started a few hours ago with roughly 10-20% of images looking like yours. Now, I am at 100% blurry images.

There is also same issue now even in google flow

I can confirm the blurry images by using the API and Nano Banana Pro. Didn’t check the results and created quite a lot of images. Hope they refund the credits…

Started with a couple of failed blurred images, now all images fail and return a blurred image, can’t get a single completed image at all.

Yea I am having the same issue.

I have been having the same issue for hours now, getting worse and worse over time. I have noticed that the initial image DOES render (in AI-STUDIO, When you render an image, click the “Thoughts” area and it will show you the thinking process and the actual image, this is not upscaled but it DOES render it.

  • So it seems the images do render correctly but then when the AI tries to upscale to 4K, this breaks down and destroys the image entire.

Furthermore, I tried to replicate this in normal Google Gemini and yep, same thing, Go to Gemini, create any random image and you will see it works correctly, then click “Download Full Size” and this is where the AI fails, it will upscale it, download it and the same thing happens.

Conclusion: The images DO render, both standard Gemini and AI-STUDIO “Thoughts” area show the images rendering, it is when the AI tries to upscale to 3K/4K where it fails and breaks the images.

  • This means the images you rendered in AI-STUDIO, even if they look broken, just click the “Thoughts” area and you will see the actual image, just lower resolution than you wanted but safe, meaning you can at least download them, save them and later upscale them with an off-site upscaler.

I hope this helps, this is what I have found at least.

I found that the 1K result image is fine, but the 2K and 4K ones all have this problem.

me too, im having the same problem today with nano banana 2 and nano banana pro

yes 1K results are fine but everything else is blurry after that

The same issue is happening in Google Flow. First of all, the image generation quality has degraded severely. Then the following muddy grey image is what I get after downloading any generated image in 2K. WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?? Can anyone explain?

What is going on here?!

The following is the 1K downloaded version of the muddy grey image I posted above. Never expected such a quality from Nano Banana 2 or Pro.

Is this a processing error, or a policy shift at Google??

But there’s no help for people using Google Flow I guess. Check the 1K image I tried to generate, and downloaded in 1K. It somehow rendered the subjects and environment that I wanted, but the quality is very poor.

It is very odd how it has gotten worse over time and affecting other services/sites, not just at once but spreading like a Virus, I think it may be a faulty patch that has been sent out to the servers, which takes time and not all at once, hence why it has gotten worse over time and more sites are being affected (because more and more servers are being hit with a faulty patch).

I don’t think it is a policy change or anything, just a faulty patch that has gradually been sent out and caused the bug to spread along with it. I am expecting Google to quickly fix this will take a few more hours (they are most likely already working on it as we speak).

These servers are all over the globe and patches take time to hit each server, this means one server fails at first and as such not many issues caused, but as more and more servers get the faulty update, the issue gets worse aswell until no one can really do anything, this will last till Google issues a hot-fix and reverses the problem, all this is done behind the scenes and we have no control over it.

At least, that is my theory, the same happened with Nvidia recently with the GPU Drivers, they had to quickly release a hot-fix due to faulty drivers causing problems.

I’m experiencing the same problem. When I generate images I’ve created before using the same prompt, the images come out blurry. What should I do to solve this? This happens when I use NanoBanana 2 via OpenArt and Krea. I can get results with 1K resolution, but not with 2K and 4K.

It seems the back-end servers are failing meaning there is nothing much you can do other than wait till Google fix it, hopefully soon.

My advice would be to just stop creating stuff for now, as doing so wasted credits, Google does usually refund these, I am not sure about other sites, either way the best thing to do is to wait till it is fixed.

I really wish Google were more transparent with these issues, the Status page shows nothing wrong at all when there clearly is, and we are paying customers who deserve to know.

I’m having the exact issue also.
