Hello Google AI Studio team and community,
I’m seeking technical clarification and guidance regarding the recovery of my Google AI Studio conversation history and uploaded attachments from a suspended Google account.
My main concern is not how to use Google Takeout. The issue is that Google offered a data export during the account suspension process, but both exports I downloaded contained no Google Drive data. Since I can no longer sign in to the original account, I have no way to verify whether my AI Studio conversations are still stored in Google’s systems.
1. Background
My original Google account was suspended. When I attempted to sign in, Google displayed the suspension notice and offered me an option to download my data.
I followed the provided instructions. The process did not offer a service-selection screen where I could individually select products such as Google Drive, YouTube, or other Google services. Instead, the data was packaged and downloaded directly.
I submitted an account appeal, but it was unsuccessful. I have since submitted a second appeal.
2. What the exported archives show
I downloaded the data archive twice through the suspension-related export process. Both downloads produced the same results.
In the archive browser (archive_browser.html), Google Drive is explicitly shown as:
-
No data found
-
0 files exported successfully
The extracted archive’s file listing also contains no Google Drive export directory or AI Studio conversation files.
Other services do contain exported data, so this is not simply a case where the entire archive is empty.
Importantly, I did not manually deselect Google Drive or AI Studio. I was not given an opportunity to select individual services during the export process.
3. Why I am concerned about AI Studio data
Before the account was suspended, I used Google AI Studio and had conversations and uploaded attachments that I would like to recover.
On my new Google account, AI Studio conversations are automatically saved to Google Drive in my experience, even though I did not specifically change the automatic-save setting.
This makes me concerned that my previous AI Studio conversations and attachments may have been omitted from the suspension-related export.
However, I cannot establish whether the original conversations were successfully saved to Google Drive, whether they are stored through another mechanism, or whether they have been deleted. I do not want to assume that the absence of files in the archive necessarily means the original data no longer exists.
4. Why I cannot investigate this through my original account
My original account remains inaccessible because of the suspension.
I cannot sign in to Google Drive to check the original Google AI Studio folder, and I cannot access the standard Google Takeout interface through that account to create a separate, customized export.
Consequently, I have no independent way to determine whether the original conversations and attachments still exist.
5. Questions for the Google AI Studio team
Could someone familiar with AI Studio’s conversation storage and account-data export behavior please clarify the following?
-
Are AI Studio conversations and uploaded attachments always stored in the user’s Google Drive, or can some conversation data be stored separately from Drive?
-
Can the data-export process offered to a suspended Google account omit Google Drive files or AI Studio conversation history, even when the user did not have an opportunity to select or deselect individual services?
-
Does the message “No data found” / “0 files exported successfully” establish that the original Drive data is absent, or does it only indicate that no Drive files were included in that particular export?
-
Is there an official way to determine whether my original AI Studio conversations and uploaded attachments still exist in Google’s backend systems, without being able to sign in to the suspended account?
-
If the data still exists, is there an official recovery or export procedure available to users whose accounts remain suspended?
I understand that account reinstatement and data recovery may be separate processes, and that the forum may not be able to review account-specific suspension decisions. I am not asking the community to bypass account restrictions. I am trying to understand the technical status of my data and whether an official recovery path exists.
I can provide a redacted screenshot of the archive browser showing the Google Drive export result and the relevant archive file listing if helpful. I will not post my email address, account identifiers, or other sensitive information publicly.
Thank you for any clarification or guidance.
