Gemini Gems not working from Chrome “Ask Gemini” widget after Chrome update

Environment:

Issue Description:
After updating Chrome (or around the time of the update), the Gemini Gems integration appears to have stopped working from the Chrome “Ask Gemini” widget/search prompt.

Previously, I was able to interact directly with my personalized Gemini Gems through the Chrome Ask Gemini experience. I could ask questions and continue conversations normally.

Now:

  • Custom Gems chats are no longer appearing in widget chat history

  • Chats related to personalized Gems are not showing in the Chrome widget history.

  • The Ask Gemini widget seems to interact only with standard Gemini instead of my configured Gems.

Expected Behavior:
The Chrome Ask Gemini widget should allow access to and interaction with personalized Gemini Gems chats, including showing related chat history and continuing Gem-specific conversations.

Actual Behavior:
No custom Gem conversations appear, and Gem functionality seems unavailable from the Chrome widget.

Additional Notes:

  • Current Chrome version: 148.0.7778.97

  • This functionality was working previously on an earlier Chrome version.

  • Unsure whether the issue is caused by the Chrome update or a backend Gemini/Gems integration change.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Open Chrome.

  2. Use the “Ask Gemini” widget/address bar integration.

  3. Attempt to interact with a personalized Gemini Gem.

  4. Observe that custom Gems and related chat history do not appear.

Impact:
Unable to access or continue workflows using personalized Gemini Gems directly from Chrome, which was previously part of my regular usage flow.
