am using the Gemini Developer API from an Azure VM located in the MalaysiaWest region. Malaysia is listed as a supported Gemini API location.
Requests from the VM return:
HTTP 400
FAILED_PRECONDITION
User location is not supported for the API use.
This occurs for both generate_content and the read-only models.list endpoint, so it does not appear to be related to request schema or model generation.
Environment:

MalaysiaWest - Transport: IPv4
- IPv6: unavailable
- SDK:
google-genai 2.23.0 - Configured model:
gemini-3.8-flash - No VPN or proxy is being used by the VM
- Azure metadata reports MalaysiaWest
- External geolocation of the Azure outbound IPv4 appears as United Kingdom
Could the Gemini API team please check whether this Azure outbound IP or its range is being incorrectly classified or blocked?
I can provide the exact outbound IPv4 privately if required.
I have intentionally not included the API key.
