Gemini API key tier silently downgraded from Tier 3 to Tier 1 — no notification received

I’m reaching out because my Gemini API key’s rate limit tier was unexpectedly downgraded from Tier 3 to Tier 1 with no prior notice or explanation.

What happened:

  • My API key was previously operating at Tier 3
  • I did not receive any email, in-product warning, or notification of any kind
  • I only discovered the change when my application started hitting rate limit errors
  • There was no unusual usage on my end, and I have not violated any usage policies to my knowledge

What I’m asking:

  1. Why was my tier downgraded?
  2. Is this a known issue or a bug?
  3. Can my tier be restored to Tier 3, or what steps do I need to take?
