Gemini API - Has the free tier been discontinued? API keys remain unavailable

Hello,

I’m trying to use the Gemini API, but I’m facing a persistent issue with API key availability.

My main question is: Has the free tier for the Gemini API been discontinued?

Here is the problem I’m encountering:

  1. My existing API key is showing as “unavailable” and is generating 429 errors.

  2. When I try to create a new API key, the new key also appears as “unavailable” immediately after creation.

Could you please clarify:

  • Is there still a free usage tier for the Gemini API?

  • Why are both old and new API keys showing as unavailable?

  • Is this a known issue or a change in policy?

Me too. On my long-used Google account, creating a key shows as unavailable, but I can create a free key on a new account
