Gemini API Free Tier restricted - manual review request

Hello Google AI / Gemini API Support,

I am requesting a manual review of my account/project access to the Gemini API Free Tier.

I was previously able to use the Gemini API successfully, but my project suddenly began returning:

403 PERMISSION_DENIED
“Your project has been denied access. Please contact support.”

In Google AI Studio, the project status now appears as “Restricted” and asks me to configure billing.

I would like to continue using the Gemini API under the Free Tier, within the applicable free usage limits.

I have already completed the main account verification steps:

  • 2-Step Verification / MFA is enabled.
  • My phone number is configured and verified.
  • My recovery email is verified.
  • My date of birth is correctly configured.
  • The API key is correctly restricted to Gemini API.
  • I created additional test projects in Google Cloud and imported them into Google AI Studio, but they also appeared as “Restricted”.

This suggests that the restriction may be associated with my account eligibility rather than a specific project.

My original project is:
Project name: Default Gemini Project
Project ID: gen-lang-client-01889406..

I would appreciate a manual review of my account and project eligibility for the Gemini API Free Tier.

I am not requesting increased limits or paid-tier access. I only want to restore access to the standard Free Tier, subject to Google’s normal free usage limits.

The Gemini API is being used for an internal audit support application and the restriction is currently preventing normal testing and operation.

Thank you for your assistance.

Hello @auditoria_tecnica ,

If completing standard security and identity verifications steps still does not restore access (or if using a model requiring a paid tier), you might want to consider adding prepayment credits directly in Google AI Studio and/ or attaching a Google Cloud Billing account in the Google Cloud Console. Please note this will mean you lose your free tier quota
