Ensure that the model you are requesting is available on your current plan. For example, not all models are available on the free tier. You can verify model availability, quotas, and limits on the AI Studio Rate Limit dashboard.
Once verified, retry your request or create a new API key in Google AI Studio.
Upgrade to a Paid Tier:
If verifying your account does not restore access (or if using a model requiring a paid tier), you can unlock access by adding prepayment credits directly in Google AI Studio or attaching a Google Cloud Billing account in the Google Cloud Console.
I completed phone verification and enabled 2-Step Verification on my Google Account. However, the project is still shown as “Restricted” in Google AI Studio, and the Billing Tier says “Set up billing”.
I also tested another Google Account, and its Default Gemini Project is showing the same Restricted status.
Could you please confirm whether this is an account/project flag that requires manual review, or whether Free Tier access should still be available for these projects?
I would prefer to remain on the Free Tier if possible.
I have also attached screenshots of the project pages from two different Google Accounts for reference. I hope this information will be helpful in identifying the issue.
The screenshots are in Simplified Chinese because this is the language of my Google AI Studio interface. The relevant project status and error information are visible in the screenshots.
In that case, you should consider adding prepayment credits in Google AI Studio and/ or linking a Google Cloud Billing account in the Google Cloud Console to resolve this error.
