Good evening everyone. I’m going through a real ordeal. Since migrating to Gemini 3.1 Pro, I can no longer continue developing my application, which was developed without any problems under the Gemini 3 Pro Preview model. I can no longer make any changes without getting the “timeout…retry again” error after waiting 1200 seconds (20 minutes) each time. Gemini 3.1 Pro executes shell commands instead of writing code with lengthy deliberation, never achieving the requested and desired modifications.Has anyone else encountered this problem? If so, what is the solution to get out of this impasse?
I found the migration to be bad as well, was quite happy with how it was before. Now:
It seems to have removed my previous “context”(/chat)
Time out, over and over and you’re not quite sure if you should keep the changes it made or just revert.
More unworking code than before (I think it might be because it lost the chat context but not sure)
To fix your problem: you can try make a small change using 3.1 Flash Lite Preview and then try the 3.1 Pro again.
But if I were to guess your project might be so big that it’s overinterpreting everything and thus does too much and then timeouts. The 3.0 Pro for me took at most 300sec now I almost always end up between 300-600sec or more.
I am done and cancelling by Monday, 3/16/26, if we don’t get developer responses. I have never seen such praise for such filth as I have with this new “update.” I am seriously in the middle of a time sensitive project and using both web and CLI. CLI is steadier but has lost quite a bit of intelligence. Web / Desktop hallucinates out of the gate. I gave it a document for review and within 2 prompts, it thought I was someone else and INSISTED I WAS THAT PERSON - it would not let up no matter how much “proof” I provided in the RAG. This is 100% unacceptable and unusable. I don’t care how much you prioritize benchmarks. You need to prioritize usability / functionality. Typical. Thanks for making me pivot in the middle of my workflow, causing massive delays to my project. I guess it is time to host my own AI. Thanks for the time wasted.
