On the page Rate limits | Gemini API | Google AI for Developers, the Gemini 2.5 Pro Experimental 03-25 version has free API limits, but when I make an API call, I receive an API Error (code 429): "You exceeded your current quota, please check your plan and billing details. For more information on this error, head to: Rate limits | Gemini API | Google AI for Developers.
My requests are small, around 4,000-5,000 characters.
What could be the issue here? Is there an error in the limit description, or am I doing something wrong?
same thing here, Google last time had issues with 2.5 Pro Preview model when some made noise and even used sensitive topics to force Google react about the unexpectedly poor performance of the new Preview model over the previous Experimental one, after that Google just shut the crowd by stopping free tier from accessing this model (which is sad, to me it’s still something outstanding among the rest). I think Google is now slowly opening access again to this top-tier model, especially after Google IO 2025. Still, since this process may take time, the inconsistency may happen here and there. I think if we’re lucky enough, then we can see 2.5 Pro for free tier again (Experimental version), or in the worst case, it will never be back
