Why Am I Getting a 429 Error From Gemini API?

I have an issue with Gemini API integration, showing 429 error. My usage is 0, as shown below, for my project

IDAS Project gen-lang-client-0915043559

Previously, this project was working properly with the same input.

API Error 429. Details: You exceeded your current quota, please check your plan and billing details. For more information on this error, head to: https://ai.google.dev/gemini-api/docs/rate-limits.

I’m in the same situation. I don’t know what to do. It seems like you bought a key specifically to avoid seeing these messages! Have you contacted tech support?

I am also facing the same issue. Under the free tier, I created a new project and generated a new API key, but I am unable to send even a single request. Last week, the allowed number of requests initially showed as 20 and then 5, but now I cannot send any requests at all. I receive a 429 error on the very first request itself.

Hey all,

We truly appreciate you flagging this issue and apologize for the inconvenience. Could you please provide the project number (not the project ID) via direct message?

Thank You for your Response,

For the project mentioned above, I receive a 429 error on the very first request. I then created another project, but in that project I was only able to make two requests before encountering the same issue. I am facing the same issue with all other projects I have created as well.

Hi @Sonali_Kumari1 - is there anything you can help with?
It seems that this is an issue between Cursor and Google, at least this is what it seems to be. For me this btw. only applies for the Gemini 3 models

Is there any news? Its still failing :frowning:
