429 error with quota with tier

I’m facing an issue with this. I ran a few tests, and suddenly it says I’ve reached the quota limit. I checked the statistics, and I’ve only made a few requests. I really don’t know what could be causing this. Could anyone help me?

Note: I am Tier 1 and have been using the free trial for just two day

I’m having the same issue. It only affects gemini-2.5-pro in my case, all other models are working fine.

I’m nowhere near hitting the rate limits either:

  • 6/150 RPM
  • 81/2,000,000 TPM
  • 8/10,000 RPD

I discovered for some reason my account is saying is on free tier and that’s why this is happening

I also have the same problem, an account and project at the TIER 1 level does not work with error 429. The same account at the FREE level does work!

The problem is only with Gemini 2.5 Pro, not with Flash

I’ve tried opening a new project, and even a completely new debit account on a different Google account, and the problem still persists

This happens even though the indicators clearly state that I am very far from the limits

Facing the same issue with gemini-2.5-flash

Hey All,

This issue has been mitigated. Please reach out to us if you continue to experience it.

Thank you for your patience!

This is certainly not fixed…

I am still experiencing this issue.

I have the same issue. Paid Tier 1 account. Using Gemini 2.5 flash. I have hit this error:

Quota exceeded for metric: generativelanguage.googleapis.com/generate_content_free_tier_requests, limit: 250, model: gemini-2.5-flash\

Any ideas??

Hi @David_Benhaim, @Nate_Be,

Thank you for letting us know that you are still experiencing this issue. We apologize for the delayed response.

To help us investigate this further, could you please provide the following information:

  • The specific model you are using (e.g., Gemini 2.5 Pro, Gemini 2.5 Flash).
  • The exact error message you are receiving.
  • Have you confirmed that your project is on a paid tier and not the free tier?

If you are on a paid tier and the issue persists, please send your Project ID, Tier Details via a direct message.

Thank you!

Hi @el_turq,

Thank you for providing the error message. The error message you shared indicates that your requests are being incorrectly attributed to the free tier limit, even though you are on a paid plan. This can often be resolved by generating a new API key directly from your billed project.

Could you please try creating a new API key to see if that resolves the issue?

If the problem persists after using a new key, please send your Project ID via a direct message so we can investigate further.

Thank you!

I’m also having the same issue and I have a tier 1 paid account and I seem to only be running into this problem with Gemini 2.5 Flash-Lite. If I switch to the older 2.0 Flash-Lite there is no 429 error.

Just to confirm: I did generate a new API key. In fact, I deleted all existing projects (and their associated API keys), and then created new projects and new API keys, and still the problem remained. I have DM’ed you the details. Best, B

@chunduriv hi! If I have same issue, how can I contact technical team to resolve it? I have tier 1 and facing 429 error, but my request rate doesn’t even close to limit

Experiencing the same error.

This is the full message. It is from a brand new billing account and project. I have tried all models and I keep getting the same error. I tried creating new APIs, projects, billing accounts, and nothing solves it.
