Free Quota Exceeded and Video Generation Settings Locked (Aspect Ratio, Duration)

Hello,

I am experiencing a persistent issue with my Google AI Studio free quota for Veo video generation. For the past week, I have been unable to use the service, as it consistently shows that my free quota has been exceeded.

The main problem is that even when the quota is expected to be reset, I am unable to access key settings. The video generation is locked to a 16:9 aspect ratio, and options for video length, frame rate, and output resolution are all grayed out or not selectable.

Previously, I was able to generate videos in a 9:16 vertical format, which is essential for my content. I have two Google accounts and I use them on different browsers (Chrome and Edge), which might be related to this issue.

Could you please provide some insight into why these settings are disabled and if it’s a new policy for free users? I would appreciate any guidance on how to resolve this.

Thank you.

Hello,

I can understand why this is frustrating. I’ve looked into the issue, and it appears this is not a bug but a recent platform-wide policy change for all users.

Here’s a simple breakdown of what’s happening:

  1. Why your quota isn’t resetting: The free daily refreshing quota for Veo has been discontinued. It was replaced with a one-time “lifetime” free quota per account. It seems you have used this one-time trial, which is why it’s permanently at zero and no longer resets.

  2. Why your settings are “grayed out”: Because your free quota is zero, the entire video generation UI (aspect ratio, length, etc.) is disabled. You aren’t being locked to the 16:9 aspect ratio; that’s just the default value you’re seeing on the disabled menu.

  3. How to get 9:16 video back: The 9:16 vertical format you need is now an official, supported feature of the new Veo 3 model. This new model, along with these features, is now part of the paid service. To regain access to video generation and the 9:16 format, you will need to upgrade to a paid plan.
