I have a subscription to the AI Pro plan, which all works fine except that I can’t run Antigravity since the version 2 upgrade (version 1 worked nicely). I’ve tried installing both the GUI and CLI versions on my regular Windows 11 machine and also a freshly installed Fedora laptop that’s never been logged in before. I just get “failed to make code assist backend request” when I log in. I’m based in New Zealand but Antigravity is supposed to be available here.
Additionally, there’s no way to provide feedback or ask for support from within the app, as the Submit button never lights up.
What’s the next course of action? I’ve already tried clearing out every mention of Antigravity from my machine, and also removing the app registration from my Google account so it has to fully reauthenticate. I don’t see any sort of errors or warnings in my account.
Thanks,
Julian.
Same issue, haven’t had a response in about two weeks
Same here, using Fedora too
yep, still cannot login into antigravity
Hello @jmelville.
The “Failed to make Code Assist backend request” error indicates that the application cannot communicate with Google’s Code Assist backend service during setup. This is often caused by account eligibility issues, stale auth tokens, network restrictions, or regional gaps.
Please try the following:
-
Disable any VPNs, proxies, or custom DNS providers that may be blocking the connection.
-
Clear your browser cache for “gemini apps.”
-
Reset your local Antigravity state by clearing the cache folders. If prompted to create a project, cancel it and use the “DEFAULT” login button.
-
If logged in with a subscription, try signing in with a free, non-subscribed Google account to see if it bypasses the eligibility check.
-
Also you can trigger an onboarding reset by pressing Ctrl+Shift+P (Cmd+Shift+P on Mac), searching for “Anti-gravity reset onboarding,” and executing it.
