Error #3501 - Personal account wrongly blocked by Enterprise license

Hello Google AI Support Team,

I am writing to report error #3501 that I am experiencing in Visual Studio Code with the Gemini Code Assist extension.

The exact error message is: “You do not have a valid license of this product. Please contact your administrator to request a license. If you are not an enterprise user and believe you are receiving this message as an error, please try using the latest version and logging in again. (#3501)”

I want to clarify that I am a paying subscriber to Google AI Pro, using a standard personal account, not an enterprise or Google Workspace account. Despite my active paid subscription, my requests are being incorrectly routed to the cloudaicompanion.googleapis.com backend, which requires a Gemini Code Assist Enterprise license that I do not have.

Technical details of my case:

  • Error Code: #3501 (SUBSCRIPTION_REQUIRED / error_number: 1001)

  • Status: PERMISSION_DENIED / HTTP 403

  • Error ID: [Paste your Error ID here if you have it]

  • Trajectory ID: [Optional, if available]

  • Trace ID: [Optional, if available]

  • Domain: cloudaicompanion.googleapis.com

I have tried troubleshooting by signing out, restarting VS Code, removing Windows credentials, and updating the extension, but the issue persists in an endless loop.

I kindly request that you review my account status and reset the backend routing flag so my personal account can access the service. Thank you very much for your help.

Hi @Manuel_Garcia1,

Thanks for the detailed report! This error is expected. On June 18, 2026, Gemini Code Assist for individuals was retired in the VS Code and JetBrains extensions. The extension now only works with a paid Google Cloud Code Assist Standard or Enterprise license, so personal accounts and Google AI Pro plans get #3501. Nothing is wrong with your account.

To use your Google AI Pro plan, switch to Google Antigravity, which now includes the AI Pro benefits:

  1. Download it from Google Antigravity - Download
  2. Sign in with the same personal Gmail account that has AI Pro.
  3. If sign-in seems stuck, press Ctrl+Shift+P, run “Reset Onboarding”, and sign in again.

If you want to stay in VS Code, you’ll need a Google Cloud project with a Gemini Code Assist Standard or Enterprise license assigned to you.
