Does a Google DeepMind Gemini API Tenant Sandbox project qualify for Paid Services data protection in AI Studio?

Hello Google AI Studio team,

I am currently subscribed to Google AI Pro, and I would like to clarify whether my prompts, uploaded images, and other content in Google AI Studio are excluded from use for Google product and AI model improvement.

Here is my situation:

  1. In Google AI Studio Dashboard → Projects, my project shows Tier 3.

  2. The project’s Status field is empty.

  3. The API Keys page does not show any API keys.

  4. The AI Studio Billing page says that there are no billing accounts.

  5. In Google Cloud Console, I found a project associated with a billing account containing the name “Google DeepMind → Gemini API Tenant Sandbox”.

  6. When I try to access the billing account details, I receive an “Additional access required” message.

I have not been able to verify whether this project is covered by the Paid Services terms.

Could you please clarify:

  1. Is the “Gemini API Tenant Sandbox” project managed by Google?

  2. Does this project qualify my AI Studio Playground usage for the Paid Services data protection terms?

  3. Are my prompts, uploaded images, videos, and generated outputs excluded from use for Google model training and product improvement?

  4. If not, what steps can I take to ensure that my AI Studio content is not used for model training or product improvement?

Thank you for your assistance.

Hello @writertlike0123 ,

  1. Yes — a project listed under “Gemini API Tenant Sandbox” is a Google-managed internal project used by Google AI Studio, which is why its billing details are restricted in Google Cloud Console and no customer billing accounts or API keys appear for it in AI Studio.
  2. No — neither that Google-managed project nor a Google AI Pro plan qualifies AI Studio Playground usage for Paid Services terms. AI Studio prompts are covered as Paid Services only when at least one of your own API projects has Cloud Billing enabled (shown as Paid under Plan on the API keys page) or when using an eligible Google Workspace enterprise account.
  3. Without a billing-enabled API project of your own (outside the EEA, Switzerland, and the UK), AI Studio usage is governed by the Unpaid Services data use terms, where prompts, uploaded files (such as images and videos), and generated outputs may be used to provide, improve, and develop Google products, services, and machine learning technologies.
  4. To cover AI Studio usage under Paid Services data protection (where prompts, uploaded files, and outputs are not used to improve Google products), create or import your own Google Cloud project in AI Studio and attach an active Cloud Billing account following the billing setup guide, then confirm the project shows Paid under Plan.
